Safer Internet Day 2026

Safer Internet Day 2026 took place on 10th February with the theme ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.’ This national event, celebrated in over 170 countries worldwide, encourages children and adults alike to think carefully about how they use technology and how to stay safe online.

Throughout the day, our pupils took part in a range of activities designed to help them understand how artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life. In their computing lessons, each class explored age-appropriate discussions around smart technology, including voice assistants, chatbots and how AI can be used both positively and responsibly. Pupils considered the importance of making safe choices when interacting with technology and reflected on how to question and evaluate the information they see online.

We also came together as a whole school for a special Safer Internet Day assembly. Through quizzes, discussion and role play, children were encouraged to think about real-life scenarios and how they would respond to them. These activities helped reinforce key messages about online safety, critical thinking and responsible behaviour when using digital tools.

Please read on to find out what each class did and how they celebrated!

Oak Class

To celebrate Safer Internet Day, we explored this year’s theme: Smart tech, safe choices – using AI and technology responsibly. The children thought about all the ways they use technology at home, from playing games and watching YouTube to listening to music or chatting with a smart assistant.

Together, we discussed how to make good choices online and what to do if something doesn’t feel right. The children shared clear rules to help keep themselves safe:

  • Don’t share your passwords with other people
  • Keep personal information private
  • Only visit trusted, age‑appropriate websites
  • Tell a trusted adult if you are worried or unsure

The children showed thoughtful awareness of how to enjoy technology while staying safe, responsible, and confident online.

Cedar Class

As part of Safer Internet Day, pupils explored how to stay safe, respectful and responsible online. Through real-life scenarios and discussions, children learned about digital footprints, protecting personal information, and the importance of reporting concerns to a trusted adult. The session helped pupils understand that their online actions can have lasting consequences and that making thoughtful, kind choices online is just as important as in real life. The children created posters for advising others how to deal with online scenarios provided to them.
