British Science Week
During British Science Week 2026, we explored the theme “Curiosity: What’s your question?”.
The week encouraged children to think like scientists by asking thoughtful questions about the world around them. Classes spent time sharing ideas, discussing their wonders, and developing their own questions to investigate.
Each class then chose a question to explore, leading their learning through curiosity, enquiry and discovery. The following sections highlight the different questions and investigations carried out across the school.
Oak Class
Oak had a fantastic time celebrating British Science Week. We continued our animal survival project by closely observing our class caterpillars, looking for tiny changes as they grow and prepare for their next stage. The children loved becoming real scientists, using careful eyes and plenty of curiosity. We also carried out a simple melting investigation using chocolate, linking our experiment to Baby Bunny’s Easter Surprise. This helped us explore how materials change and what causes something to melt. It was a wonderful week of exploring, discovering and asking questions about the world around us.

Pupil Voice
Rapha: Bubbly chocolate will melt the fastest because it has air.
Augustin: Dark chocolate will melt the slowest because it has more cocoa.
Thomas: I liked watching the caterpillars. I saw them moving eating.

Cherry Class
Cherry Class had a fantastic time celebrating British Science Week! The children took part in a wildlife themed activity where they matched photographs of British animals and then compared them closely to spot what was the same and what was different.

'Look, they match' Martha
'It's a robin!'
'This owl is white and that one is brown'
Their knowledge of British wildlife was brilliant—they confidently named animals, described features such as fur, feathers and markings with real enthusiasm. It sparked some wonderful conversations and lots of curious questions!
The class thoroughly enjoyed the activity, and it was lovely to see them working together, observing carefully, and sharing what they already knew. A fun and engaging way to explore the natural world right on our doorstep!
